HOW I GOT A NATMOBILE
CHAPTER FOUR: GETTIN' IT AND MAKIN' IT!

I started hunting for the right "donor" car, a BIG Lincoln from the 70's! The limo driver from Home and Family saw one at the LAX auction lot, and $200 later, I had the keys to my batmobile, well - sort of! The guys at the engine rebuild shop thought I was crazy dropping so much money into a hopped up engine in an old junker, but I never told them what it was going to become! Meanwhile.....

...up in Canada, "Alfred" was working hard to put together a kit for my "anti-crime roadster"! Here's my secret builder in front of an earlier car he made!

CANADAMAN! eh? Four stars for the great Canadian border guards, and five Heil Hitler's for the nastiest ugliest Americans I have ever had to deal with in my life, when I tried to re-enter the USA. LONG story, but let's just say I met some guys who really hate their job, and take it out on visiting Canadians and returning Americans! :(

We tried the hood on to see how it fit in his secret batmobile lair!

HOLY WIPEOUT! No, it's just my car on its side still in the anti-crime roadster molds!

Bits and pieces of the kit, front dash and the grill mesh.

Out of the molds, a shot of Robin's side!

Wonder woman's invisible jet engine!

So I had the engine and drive train, and the body was in Canada, so Chris and I took a plane to Seattle, a cab to the Ryder truck store, the truck to "Alfred's" house, then a ferry to his island!

Getting the tour of his cave, the birthplace of my ACR!

I had planned to stay the night in Canada, but it was still early, so we decided to load her up and head for the ferry and then the American border! That's Chris on the ramp directing traffic!

We and I carried it out to the truck, and stopped for a few photos before taking her up the ramp.

Chris had to take a few photos as well!

I had to "sit" in my car, I guess it's my first ride! Under the photo in my scrapbook it reads: "Holy missing undercarriage, Batman!"

And of course, Christopher had to add another batmobile to his long list of batcars he's been in!
